I started
teaching at Matapu in 2007 and have been fortunate enough to move from the
classroom to the role of Principal in a great school. Before coming to
Matapu I spent four years teaching at the Hawera Intermediate, where I also
taught music for a year.
I love my music
and learnt piano as a child, teaching myself the guitar, drums and harmonica
(I LOVE the harmonica!) as an adult. I
also try to keep active by playing football and social netball when I
can. ICT plays a big part
in my home and working life and I believe that the new advances in technology
have some exciting implications for how we are educating our children now, ad
how we will be educating them in the future.

Willson
Deputy Principal
Year 7-8 teacher
|
I teach in the year 7 and 8 classroom
(Room 1) at Matapu School and am also the Deputy Principal. I have been lucky
enough to have worked in a range of schools from primary through to high
school, which has helped to give me a broader understanding of the education
system as a whole. I am passionate about encouraging the students to take
ownership of their learning so goals and reflections are a big part of what
we do in room 1.
I have many interests outside of school
that I try to participate in as much as possible. I love most forms of
motorsport and try to take my car (an old rx7) around the Taupo race track in
the school holidays. I also like to try and keep fit, but have only had
varying levels of success with this over the past few years. However I have
ticked the Mountain to Surf Half Marathon off my list this year and have The
Taranaki Daily News Half Marathon in my sight.

Year 5-6 teacher

I have been
teaching at Matapu School for five years. My favourite thing about
teaching is seeing children's enthusiasm as they continuously grasp new
concepts. I am originally from Lower Hutt, though I feel Taranaki is my
home as I have been living here for the past ten years.
In 2008 I
married my husband, Alfred, and we now have two beautiful boys. I love
painting, horse riding and most of all having family time over the weekend.

Whittle
Year 3-4 teacher
|
As you may have noticed, I'm a new face
at Matapu School this year. I grew up in New Plymouth and moved to
South Taranaki in 2012. I taught years 5-7 at Ngaere School last year
and am so excited to be part of another rural school community this year.
What I love about teaching is being part of watching children grow,
learn and succeed every day. Outside of school my 2 year old son keeps
me pretty occupied. I love hanging out with my family at the park or
beach, walking our dog or anything outdoors!

Leesha Clark
Year
2-3 teacher
|
Hi, my name is
Leesha Clarke and I've been teaching at Matapu for nearly four years now.
I teach in the
junior area and have worked with year one, two, three and four students
during my time as a teacher. I enjoy working with this age because the
children always surprise you with what they know and what they are thinking.
Outside school I
enjoy playing football, socialising with my friends, walking my dog or
curling up with a good book (there seem to be a lot of those).
